Since install of 4" Skyjacker all springs on my 90 Jimi, I've got a MAJOR EARTHQUAKE type vib while 2WD ing . Undrivable. It gets better if I put it in neutral, but soen't totally go away. I've got the shims that came with the springs fat end in the back and a brand new longer driveshaft. How to get rid of the vib without lowering the T-case?? Or must I do this? The only problem I have with lowering the t-case is that the front driveshaft is only clearing the exhaust by 1/8 to 3/16 on and inch. My frustration is starting to get the best of me and my wife.
HELP!!!!

Has the shims in the rear Fat end in the rear

I had to lower my t-case to rid myself of this problem. Is your rear pinion pointing straight at the t-case output? A shackle flip will help too.

put in the spacers and drop the transfer down...then if your shaft hits just chew on it(the cross member that is) with the grinder till you have enough clearance...i think you will have to do it anyway unless you build another cross member...

I haven't measured the angles yet. That would requir buying another tool which the wife wife give me much shat for.

But the rear pinion, by eye now, looks damn close to the angle at the slip yoke. And doesn't look to be really binding at all.

What do you mean grind on the cross member. The front DS is going to hit the "exhaust" not the crossmember. LEss you miss read, I dont understand.

OOPS sorry,i did read that wrong, ummmmm, then you might have to get a new exhaust,,,,since the ol' lady is upset you can go to a parts place and get some "flex pipe",,,it comes in several diff. sizes and lengths...just cut your exhaust off in the desired spot and clamp in the flex pipe,,it works pretty good too..i had to do this on my old k5 to get the exhaust to clear my home made cross member...IT WILL WORK!!!! oh and by the way,,,an angle finder only costs about $3.00 for the plastic ones!!!

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. Hell I dont see why they dont make the entire exhuast like that. LOL!!!!
I was planning on redoing the exhaust anyway once I got the new motor (383) built with a bowtieoverdrive 700R4.

What??? the fatter end pushed the rear of the perch down thus pointing the pinion up, am I not correct here?

The lift increases the driveline angle, and it needs to be corrected, hence the degree shims on the leaf packs. The pinion needs corrected up and possibly the t-case down. Measure angles with an angle finder, and see what you have now. If the rear drive shaft is typical 2 u-joints (no CV)the angles should be equal and opposite, maximum 15 degrees. Post if you need more help.

well flex pipe isn't exactly a "legal" fix,,,most garages wont pass it for inspection cause it isn't "air tight"..flex pipe does leak a little exhaust but you would be hard pressed to notice it!!!it works good as a quick cheap fix though!!!! it's better than open pipes anyway!!lol

The only thing they check for in Tennessee is that you have a Caty and the sniff check.

That's them. You are a big boy, but this is what I know for fact: My buddy had them do a 700r4 for his 89 K5, and 4 months later it started slipping. He took it back and the owner said that for another $400 he would fix it. This trans was still under warrenty. This is not the only bad story I've heard about them. They are great for building hot rod trans's, but if you offroad your truck, I will bet they will NOT cover it. Even if they say they will. My$.02

Everybody on here talks about how good and cool they are on the phone, but I don't think I've heard of more than 3 people on here htat have said they have one from them. I'll probably rebuild it myself, but that will just take alot longer. More down time.
I need to get rid of this vibration before I do anything else.

Did you mark the pinion to the Driveshaft relation? I took my drive shaft out.. didn't make a mark on the shaft and pinion.. So it didn't go back in the same way I took it out.. Causing bad vibration which it never had before.
I just turned the driveshaft.. and vibration is gone.

I think Im going to put the spacers back under the crossmember and get me some of that hi-temp flex hose like k5king mentioned above. And let that get me by for now. Everything is installed right and the drive shaft is brand new, so I don't know what else I can do other than trying some different size shims.
