Please once more on finding out gear ratio?

Discussion in '1973-1991 K5 Blazer | Truck | Suburban' started by **DONOTDELETE**, Jun 18, 2001.

Did a search but too many to search through, How do I find out what gear ratio I have once the dif covers are off?

    Any advice would help. Thanks

count the teeth on the ring gear. then count the teeth on the pinion gear. Divide the small number (pinion) into the big one (ring) and you have your gear ratio.

Most ring gears are stamped with anumber on the edge of the ring gear itself. I have 3.73's and on the edge of the ring gear is stamped "41:11"
Divide the two numbers and you have your gear ratio. Brake Clean works the best for cleaning inside the diff...
