a new noise on my 87
    110K on it
a clicking noise/ rattle almost as if the disc brake pads were rattling (kind of a sound)

only when light on the accelerator ...
no sound when i rev the engine in "N" the clicking is consistant with the motor rpm as far as i can tell...
could this be UV joints ???

    again, please tell me ...

<font color=purple> It could be a few things ........... front hubs going south on you, maybe u joints or even connecting rod bearing that's fried .......... let us know what you find out.

good luck, hopefully it's just your hubs, if they're automatics it would be a blessing........ put in new manuals ..... WARN premiums are a nice and easy upgrade.

Do you have an idea of where it's coming from (front, back, passenger front side, etc)?

I had one that sounded like that. I looked all over to find it and finally found a broken flexplate on the front of the torque converter. I hope that is not what is wrong. It is kind of the pitts to change. Might check it though!!

not too sure as of yet i need to get another body to either drive or hang their head out the door ...
to determine exactly where the sound origin is

but believe me iam on it ...

    Is it a ringing/rattling sound??
Could be something as simple as an exhaust shield got rusted loose, and is just rattlin away. They're annoying, but harmless. There are exhaust shields everywhere...under the spark plugs, down at the pipe after the exhuast manifold, above the cat, above the muff....etc.

I had the same problem as K5woody. Sounded like something clicking or rattling. Thought it was the catalytic convertor sheild but finally found out it was a cracked flex plate.

Probably the front pump knocking in your 700R4. That's very common and it makes a very annoying clicking sound. That might also be what cracks people's flexplates all the time.

I would guess around $250 to get the flex plate replaced, depending on where you live. As for the tranny, why rebuild if it's working OK? Tranny rebuilds run from $600 to $1600 depending on the model.
