Ok, i tore apart the cab of the truck to take off the tranny cover, and to paint the inside. I have carpet now and itss kinda nice, but i only use the truck for wheeling, I also noticed that under the carpet was this black stuff, like a sound deadner or fire stopper? i guess. the stuff seems more like a fire starter? what is it? if i put the carpet back in (which i thiink i'm gonna do) do I put this "black stuff" back in? if i dont put the carpet back in im thiking to herculine it. What should I do?

I think that black pad is a combination of a sound deadener and heat shield for the hot exhaust pipes running under the cab.

I dont see why save it if you are doing a spray-in lining.

put the heatshield back in for the love of christ, my blazer gets so hot w/o that crap in cause i bedlined it, luckily i converted my 76 to a full convertible so the heat rises out of the cab.

Try driving the truck and feeling the floorboards with no insulation. Near the tranny tunnel, it is actually uncomfortable in my truck. Passengers have to keep their shoes on, or feet away from the center of the truck, and even with shoes on, your feet start to sweat something fierce.

No anti-theft measures on your truck? No pity when its stolen

I gutted my truck for the summer, 4th of July weekend I thought my tranny was on fire the floor was so hot. The extra padding really helps.

I just tore all mine out also..
Purchased that 3 n 1 padding from LMC.. I'm going to put that down once I Herculine my truck..
The 3 n 1 padding is a heat sheild, sound deadner..
Not bad for only 30 bucks..

    I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. www.rocko.rockcrawler.com

You can get a roll of that heat shield stuff at Pep Boys for like $20 bucks... I bought 2 rolls. Then I simply got 2 rolls of the Walmart carpet for like $8 a roll.... I threw floor mats over it so it looks fine. I might pull it out so I can line the floor for some extra heat resistance and sound deadening.... But really don't just go with the liner alone because it will be so hot you will hate it....

How can I miss you if you won't go away? [IMG]
