I've heard from some people that a TH400 tranny actually sucks some horsepower due to the heavier clutches and internal parts verses a TH350. Most of the mud boggers around here run a TH350 and NP205.

Usually I run a 4spd in everything, but now I'm considering becoming more competitive.

Today I went and looked at a '77 K5 with a bad tranny for $350, which happens to have a TH350 with a 205 behind it. I figured that would donate my T-case.

Then I went to look at a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck for $500 that I figured could donate it's axles, and to my surprise, it had a TH400 and NP205... complete, running and driving with a SB400.

Now, I want to get the truck, throw a big block in it, and turn it into a mud racer.

Who thinks a TH400 is better and who thinks a TH350 is better?
