Saw a commercial for one this weekend. I have a feeling it wont have the spunk that the Aussie version has once they do the mods on it to conform to our market. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

<font color="green"> THe original is on the Holden site. If you go here and click on the pic of the GTO it will give you a little bit of info, but not a whole lot.

I don't think they'll tone it down much, the Holden basically just has a Camaro LS1 and 6 speed in it, along with IRS. The GTO concept is just a rebadged Monaro with a Pontiac grill and left side drive. Some other Pontiac styling cues, but not a whole lot changed. I've dug the Holden for a few years now, I'm glad that GM came to their senses and decided to bring one to this country. Now if they would bring the C0ommodore over too then I'd be a happy man. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I had a 66 in High School. Pretty new seeing as how that was in 67... At that time you could afford one of those working in a gas station... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

GTO means Gran Turismo Omollogato. meaning Grand Touring Homoligation. Homoligation meant that you had to produce a certain number of cars to be
sold for the public....usually 50 cars...or 500..the rules changed by the month, to actually race your race car. Thus you could actually go to Hertz in '68 and rent a Shelby GT 350 over the weekend and race it. As long as Hertz did'nt find out. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

They say that on some of those old Hertz/Shelby GT 350's if you pull up the carpet you can see the old weld marks from the rollbars where people welded them in for racing on the tracks where it was manditory.

Spoken like a true conniseur of old car lore. It was actually suggested that Shelby was putting in base-plates for the weekend racers. I often wondered how those guys claimed racing tire circles on the flanks as rental insurance claims. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Anyone ever seen a "Rambler Scrambler"? My friend had one of the 500 they built. People used to put phony letters in the scoop cuz it looked so much like a mail box. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
