poop on the \"14 Day Flattie\", let\'s do a \"14 Day K5\"

My thought is this:
Take a 87-91 K5 with a 350 CID motor (already EFI) and a TH700, bolt in a Doubler kit, a D60/14b (ARB/Detroit), a smittybuilt cage kit and some bumpers and nerfs, sawsall the fenders to fit 38's with a 6" lift, and maybe a few bolt in gadgets like a co2 tank or compressor, some recovery gear, a winch, etc.

Then with the other 10 days let's go wheelin! The leftover $10-20K should be enough to buy some gas to go where ever we want to go, the truck will take us anywhere it will fit, and drive there in way more comfort than a cramped up heep with bags of ice on the floor!

I like that idea better than floggin yourself for 14 days and buying everything down to the frame to complete a project that still runs too hot and has no space.

Making the world better, one truck at a time.

No doubt I have a 78 that could benifit fromm all of these goodies.
Oh wait I don't have EFI.... allrighty then a 502 Ramjet will work then. [IMG]
I hear ya though, the amount of work and money that the crew at 4WOR have poured into that thing is crazy.
I was rolling when I read that they had to keep bags of ice on the floor.
And several pages on an article that ended up in a jeep still overheating. [IMG]

Thats a great idea! They put a ton of cash into to that thing. You could build 2 bitchen Blazers for what they dumped into that thing.Another cool twist to that idea would be to put a realistic dollar amount on the project. When ya gonna do that?

Yeeah, what did they end up spending like 32,000 and then probably another 2,000 on ice and a ton of crap to try and get it to run cooler, what a bunch of goofballs....

Ya know, I pitched this at Cole back when he first starrted the 14 days deal. I told him barring driveshaft issues, I'm pretty sure I we could get it done it 24 hours, not 14 days. I'm still pretty damn sure I could do it, if I had all the parts ready [IMG]. I still wouldn't mind taking my 89 through those steps again. wanna slip over to Oklahoma and lets give it a shot [IMG]

Ohhh I got a better idea. See most of us do not have EFI so lets retrofit a EFI motor into a kewl blazer like say a 75 Roadster! Yeah the topless thing would rule. Then we could all learn how to do a retro fit. Then do the axle upgrade (then the guy could sell his 4.10 Lockright 10 bolt front and Detroit rear as well as springs and decent 350 to cover some of the costs). Then rework the front section of the already existing cage into a pre runner style with VDO gages. Yeha that would be the ticket. Then do some A/C repair to fix some electrical problems and replace the clutch....lots of us have these sort of problems. THen we can go over how you make itergral nurfs so you don't loose ground clearence. And finish it off with a new Specilty soft top install. Instalation of a HS9500i. Then run a REAL compressor head off a School bus off the PTO and show how that works. Then make some spiffy half doors. Yeah that would be the ticket...yes sir it sure would be.
When should I have my 75 out to CO? [IMG]

I don't need no damn shop manual, I got a pornographic memory.

Hey, at least it wasn't as ridiculous as the Dakota Quad Cab that probably took half of NASA's budget. I did see Cole on the History Channel's special on four wheel drives. Even had the 14 Day Hottie right there on the set. I still don't get putting that much money and effort into something that you can't even put your fishing poles in without them hanging halfway out. And forget about the family. Well, I guess that's what trailers are for. The only real claim to fame that Jeeps have anyway is the ability to squeeze between obstacles too narrow for a fullsize. Well, find a wider trail, dumbass!!! Either that or get out the dozer or chainsaw, depending on the texture of the obstacle. OK, I'm done.

and a chainsaw would actually fit in a full size, as a matter of fact so would the flattie[IMG]

But, if being narrow is such a plus, Why do they run full size axles under them? I guess I don't understand, either.

Re: poop on the

I have in my posession (but not on the truck, yet) a F@rd dana 60($800) that needs rotors($120) and calipers($100), a F@rd np205($100) to match up with the d60, an ORD 4" shackle flip kit($185), ORD heavy duty front shackles($60), 6" super lift front springs($250), AGR 2 wheel drive steering box($250?) and 4" drop pitman arm($80), AGR power steering pump($125), rock rod tie rod($75) and drop draglink($100), 5 37" SSR's on 16x10 rims($1700), 2 Optima blue tops($300) (still need to figure out how I want to set those up) and early next week I will have the D60 crossover steering arm($185) from ORD.

As soon as I finish paying for the tires and get rotors and calipers I'll be buying a custom ORD doubler(<$1000?) to mate that 205 up to the 203 I already have in the truck. The engine runs strong and does not really need any work. All for a total of less than $5430 plus a couple hundred in shipping. The truck itself cost me $2000. So a grand total of Less than $8000.

Of course it took me about 18 months to collect all that, but I think my brother and I can easily put all that on in 14 days. What do you guys think?

i dont get it. whats would be replaced on a jeep that wouldnt get replaced on a k5? unless you really want to hit the trail on dual 10 bolts a 700r4 that wil get roasted on the way out the driveway your slip yolk t-case, and your steering box hanging off your frame (thats cracked). on the chainsaw only fits if you can get your window motor to work. then again it is roomy enough to sleep in when run out of gas.

friends romans countrymen, lend me some parts

Preach on brother. That Jeep was retarded. I love how they didn't put any gauges on the inside of it...NOT. And they spent about a billion dollars on everything. We could probably build a K5 like you mentioned for just the money they gave Dynatrac.

My '76 K5 Cheyenne would be the better baseline to start with. I'm 5 minutes from Paceparts.com (502 Ramjet)...35 minutes from Summit Racing,(suspension, tires, wheels)...and 5 minutes fom Rossler Transmission. She's a rust-free California beast so we just kick out the trail dents and spray bomb some camouflage on it. I won't even charge anything to do the wrenchin'! We'll need a beer-budget of 3 grand for my buddies and me and STILL come in 20 grand under that *eep's cost
