What's an optimum temperature to run a ram assist steering system at? Also what is the max temp before it begins to burn up pumps?

    Thanks

How hot do you think you got yours to on Pritchet?
I know that your temp guage was reading funny.

    Just wondering a bit.

I'm guessing about 250 for a extended amount of time. The gauge was about 60 degrees off.

I'm going to a cooler with a fan, and will probably mount the new cooler behind the cab. I'm kind of out of room up front for a bigger cooler.

I would assume it is the same as your tranny temp max. Oil typically starts breaking down at about 230 degrees depending on the oil quality, synthetic is around 270 degrees.

250!! /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif that is a little on the hot side.
I know it is probably a little more expensive but look at the Howe cooler. It is all -8 fittings and has the fan on it. You might even look for someway to mount a res. between the pump and fan to get some storage.
I wonder why I haven't had problems with mine? I don't have a cooler but I do have that 1 quart res.

Howe told us that line size was everything when putting together steering stuff.

The problems with mine were because the ram wasn't hooked up and I hauled azz to get to the rockpile so fast. Just heated it up fast and it stayed that hot for about an hour.

Yeah, I've been looking at the hydro assist diagrams on Howe's site and am thinking about just plumbing everything with AN fittings and the hose sizes that he recommends.
