its like its stuttering then the engine revves on its own and kicks into gear.
and then i go to back in my drivway, nothin! i put it in reverse, hit the gas, and went no where. all i got was a rev of the engine. AGAIN! i waited, then tried again and it worked

Sounds like a tranny problem. Is the fluid at the proper level? When's the last time the filter was changed? I hope it's something simple and you haven't toasted your tranny. I'm assuming it's a 700R4.

Mine did that about a year and a half ago. It was my tranny (700R4). Just simply was worn out and decided not to shift anymore. I had to have it rebuilt because it was so far gone...(kinda figured that out when the fluid came pouring out it- DOH!) But that's what I would check if it's doing what you said....good luck and hope it's something simple and not a rebuild you need! :-)

Change the filter and put fresh ATF in it
and see what happens, It will probably be better
but, don't know for how long,

also can check your modulator line for any cracks or kinks etc
other than that, its probably shot!
    Hope Not!

    If it ain't Intimidating / It ain't a Chevy!

    I assume it's an automatic?
1st, pull the dip stick, does it smell burnt?
If so, pick up new fluid and a filter and change them!
If you don't have the money for a rebuild you could try some additives but it will only prolong certin death and probaily in the worst place. You will I'm sure end up rebuilding it.
If you do though, look on the bright side, if you can find a good tranny man, add a nasty shift kit, a high stall torque-inverter and you can have a neck snap'in tranny. If your tough on it, its better to have it shift quick. Good luck!
also keep in mind, it's cheaper to rebuild it before you shell it.
