Ok, so the holes don't line up perfectly on the crossmember but only by a 1/8" or so. So I widen the small hole to 1/2" and was going to try to wallow it out on one side to make the 1/2" bolt fit. BUT I realized that if I wallow it out the bolt will not be secure enough for the brace to be effective. My question is can I use a smaller grade 8 bolt(3/8?) instead of the 1/2" grade 3 bolt? I know it's kinda hard to understand Click here to see a pic... Thanks

I took it for a test drive with the 3/8" grade 8 bolt in place of the 1/2" bolt and my steering wheel isn't cocked to the side anymore [IMG] I think I can get a 7/16" bolt to fit in there also for a little more strength.

I had to start a totally new hole. The two holes eventually connected but the bolt was still secure.

It looks like the hole was already drilled out for the 1/2" bolt before the brace was installed. If it's not going to line up, I like to use a die grinder to cut the hole in the right direction. To fix this, you should probably cut the hole to where the bigger bolt will fit and look around for someone to either weld the hole shut and re-drill it, or weld a patch over it with the 1/2" hole in the patch and use a little longer 1/2" bolt.
Going with the smaller bolt will be functional, but not as strong.
