Anyone have any experience with them? How clear are they compared to TV's? The bigger the picture, will it be blurry or will it not change? Do they have to be a certain distance from the place you are projecting the movie on to?
Friend is considering one and I thought I'd help him out by doing some research.

    Thanks

I know a little about them, looked into buying one. Yes they have to be a certain distance, yes, the larger the image size the lower the resolution for a given unit, but you can get a better bigger one that will make a damn good damn big image.

I would suggest your friend check out cnet.com or a similar site, should have a lot of info and a buyers guide.

I was going to buy one until I realized thier lamps burn out. I leave my TV on allllllll day. I figured it would burn out in three months at that rate. Bulbs are NOT cheap.

How not cheap? I'm sure the cost would add up to be less than your standard big screen tv for a long time, but it still depends on how far you'd want to go.

    $300 - $500

Lasts between one and two years

    Projector is around a grand

So, in three years say $1800

A big screen can be $1200 and won't be affected by light or need a proper screen, and can be left on for long whiles

Hell. I retract my previous supposition.
