It appears that the proportioning valve is shot on my 73 Blazer. I can't properly bleed / fix the brakes without this. The button on the end of it appears to be stuck in. Any ideas on fixing/replacing? Dealer part is $180. Can I use one off a different year (73-85)? Thanks

I'm sure you can granted that the truck you take it from has the same brakes, as in, same caliper size and same rear wheel cylinders. It all must be matched.

Harry, I've seen some of you work before. Maybe worth a can of Natty Ice at best. Besides, the last time I helped you out, you left me 10 square feet of Brake fluid stains on the driveway, or was that me ..........??????

One from another year will work. But lines may exit/enter in a different location. The prop valve for my 78 k10 was 75.00 fron chevy dealer.

The in and outs for a Prop valve are pretty straight forward. If you have your book it should explain it. Basically just a Front and Rear "in", and a Front and Rear "out". It's just a matter of which one is which.

Two lines in from master cylinder, front and rear. Three lines out. Front left, right, and rear. The end with the 'button' on it is for the fronts. Where the brake light switch is where the front and rear are seperated.

If you ever plan to upgrade the brakes, such as 14 bolt rear drums, or 4 wheel disk, now would be a good time to upgrade to an adjustable proportioning valve, about $40 from Summit.
