I have a severly leaking PS box. From the appearance of all the fluid, I believe it as evident that the leak is from the box, not the hoses or the pump. Should I even venture into trying to rebuild the box? Looks in good shpae, it is probably just a seal or smoething. Or should I just buy a rebuilt model? Would doing a rebuild myself require any special tools?

    Thanks

New box vs rebuild.... hmmmm.... lets see. You can get the rebuild kit from AutoZone for $20, or you can spend $300 for a new box?!!! Sounds like a simple question to me! [IMG][IMG]

But if you have some heavy duty stuff under you truck, and like to wheel it hard, the stock box can actually crack. So if you plan to abuse the truck hard, maybe the $300 is the righ way for you to go.

It's up to you. You can rebuild the box for fairly cheap (assuming it is just the upper seal that is shot). If the box is very old, abused, sloppy etc. you may want to purchase a new one (perfect chance to do a crossover if you already haven't).

You can try rebuilding it for the experience and if it lasts then you gained time, and if it still leaks you are only out $20 and some time, but you will alway have the experience.

Again it's up to you. Good luck either way.
