Anyone in the springs area have any suggestions for good area's to move? I just got a call from Ft. Carson from out of the blue and was offered a sweet GS position that I applied for about a year ago. Can't beat doing practically the same thing I did on active duty but 4 times the pay. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
I would like some place close to Carson, but I will commute. I really don't want to rent, but will if I have to. I really want to buy a house now since I need a garage. How is traffic coming from Woodland Park and there abouts. I found a interesting listing for Chipita Park. What about out east? Any ideas or help would be appreciated. I'm thinking about coming down Saturday to do some more exploring. Thanks

Did you get a job working the gates? We have civilian contractors working the gates now. I have talked to them briefly on my way through and they seem to be quite happy with high morale.

As for a place to live. I may know of a house for rent if you need something short term. My old platoon sergeant just moved and he still has his house here (on the market). Don't know if he can rent it or not, I will give him a call. It is in a great area and close to post.

If you come down on Saturday give me a call and I will try to have some ideas and places for you to look at. I will PM you my number.

No, Im not working the gates. I got picked up as a GS 11 for deployment specialist. Doesn't sound to bad. I really enjoyed working at Unit Movements in Ft. Lewis. We did everything from rail head ops, air loads, and sea movements. This job sounds pretty close to the same but with out the crap. I never expected to be picked for the gs-11 position, I was actually going for gs-9, but I'm not complaining. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I live in an area called Colorado Center, which is probably straight East of the southern part of the base about 2-3 miles. Alot of USAF & Army people in the area. ALso, NO COVENANTS!!!! I really enjoy my area and most of the people are pretty nice. If you use my address (9291 Hazy Morning Drive; Colorado Springs, CO 80925) you can check mapquest for a better idea. You coulkd also ask Kevin (ktedesco), Harry (HarryH3), and Bo (Interceptor) as they've been to my house. I really like the fact that I can see Pikes Peak from my front yard and can't see the city of C/S. If you want, I could recommend an OUTSTANDING real estate guy in C/S. Just let me know. He helped my widfe & I find our home under some pretty harsh time constraints and he was wiling to help us however necessary.

It really depends on the type of house, lifestyle, price range, etc. Woodland Park is a really nice area, but I would need to be sedated if I had to drive up and down that pass every day. Traffic on Hiway 24 can really try your patience... And right now it's tourist season, so the traffic is even worse.

I'm way on the other end of town from Ft. Carson, near the Air Force Academy. Lots of nice houses on the north end, but the prices reflect it. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif Do you have kids? If so, then school district selection can also be important. District 49, out east, is having SERIOUS growing pains. They're building new homes like mad out there, but the locals voted down a tax increase to fund building new schools for all the kids moving to the area. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

District 20, in the north/northeast part of town is rated very high academically. District 11, which covers most of central Colorado Springs, has a lot of issues, both academically and financially. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Oh yeah, the Chipita Park and Green Mountain Falls area is COLD in the winter. The town is on a north facing mountainside, so it doesn't get hardly any sun during the winter. Most of the lots are very small and many only have parking for one vehicle, due to the steepness of many of the properties. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif Small houses on small lots for the most part. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Quaint little town, but the houses are too close together for my taste.

Thanks guys for the info. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Exactly what I was looking for. I might have to take you up on the realtor guy, once we figure everything out. Thanks Harry for the school info, I have a 3 year old critter and was concerned about the school situation. Thats also one of the reasons why Im looking forward to moving. Aurora isnt to bad of a place but when I went to HS in Byers we all came to Aurora to get in trouble. I could imagine what kids living here do. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Well, it looks like Im going to explore some more tomorrow, so I'll give you a call ktedesco. I'll have to check out Colorado Center also. Thanks again

Sounds great. My kids are in Widefield School District 3. The schools my kids go to are fairly new and seem to be run pretty well. If Kevin brings you to Colorado Center, have him stop by my house or call me. He has my #. Also, one thing to keep in mind. Where I live is much cheaper than most other areas. A smaller house than mine was 30K more 10 minutes North. One of the major reasons we moved here. Also, has a country feeling to the area. Not quite like living in the city. Wal-Mart & others are around 10-15 minutes away and they just opened up an Advanced Auto less than 5 minutes away. Checker, Napa, & Auto ZOne are 10-15 minutes. U-pull it is 15 minutes. Pretty nice. Like I said, good luck and I'd be glad to refer you to my real estate friend. He was great with us.

Well, went exploring saturday. Saw a couple of nice houses in the fountain area. Also saw one just down the block from you Burblover. The one on the corner of Anvil and Hazy Morning. I liked that one, the wifes not sure of that one. I would have stopped in or called Keith, but like an idiot, I left the phone numbers at the house when we left and didnt want to stop by unannounced. Thanks everybody for all the info, it help alot. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

You should have stopped by my house. I could have used the help with my fence /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif JK

I really like where I live. most things you need to get to are 10-15 minutes away.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Stay away from Pueblo West, unless you like, no rain, no snow, lots of wind, no grass, lots of uncontrollable weeds, just a bunch of small rocks and dirt, dust on everything and the Communist Architect commitee, way to many bullshit covenants. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
