    Question on \'51 4X4 willys

    I found a '51 willys 4X4 flatbed in a paper for like $750 negotiable.
I called the dude and it has a smallblock chevy engine and the "original 4 speed and t case" and what about the axles? "they look like the original heavy duty, like 1 tons" how many lug wheels!?!?!? "i'd have to go look."
Sounds like a heap that's been parked in his backyard for decades... but you gotta start somewhere!

Anyone know what might be the original
    -4 speed
    -T case
    -Front axle
    -Rear axle
    for a 1951 Willys flatbed?????????????????

I was just interested because it has a chevy smallblock in it... of course it would turn into a 20K full resto chevy running gear beast... wait... i have to finish my blazer first!

    Thanks for any help.

Woohoo a question just for me[IMG]
    4 speed= T-90
    T case =18 or 20
    Front axle=dana 25
rear = dana 41 or a Timkin axle.
A small block will fit to any tranny, but if you would need overdrive in order to get full use of it..these things top out at 50 or 55 MPH. All axles were 5 lug, there were no 6's or 8's

If he swapped axles take a close look. if the tires stick out it is probably a chevy. wagoneer axles and land cruiser axles keep the tires in the fenders, and on a truck a ford 9" or a 14 bolt will keep the tires in the wheel wells. A chevy front will be like 9" too wide.

That looked like a nice start to a sweet project. I have spent PLENTY of time over there.

Looks like a cool willys you had there dan.
but, if it had a ford 302 it was either swap it for a SBC or sell it for a K/5 huh?!!!! [IMG][IMG]

my buddy has two 50's willys wagons...
A pro street 2 wheel drive with a 6-71 blown 355 (a willys that did wheelies a few years ago)
and a 50's 4X4 willys on a '72 Blazer frame. both works in progress.

I can see potential in just about anything cool. It all starts with a project truck score for $500 or $750! [IMG]

I lucked out on that deal.. I paid $500.00 for it not running. I rebuilt the carb. And got it running. Then put a set of tires and rims on it.(Cheap ones).. Then sold it for $2800.00... That got me the extra money for my K5....Dan
