I need my truck this weekend --prom, fishing opener, etc.
Problem is with the transmission--while truck is running I can't get it into gear. I can barely force it into 3rd (L-1-2-3 sm465) and I can jamb it into R. It seems like the synchros are not working. I can hold it near R gear and ear that it's spinning fast. Doesn't matter how many times I clutch and reclutch. When the engine is not running, I can move the shifter into all gears W/O clutch! I don't like this.
What can I do to figure this out?
    I really need some help--thanks guys/gals.

Well, the level of fluid in the resivoir on the firewall seemed low, so I added a little (hardly any) but didn't notice any difference. Could there be air in the system? Could it need to be bled?

Did this happen all of a sudden, or has it been a gradual thing? Is there enough fluid in the tranny?

check the fluid level in the hydro clutch unit. Your slave cylinder may have taked a dump on you too. That's the way the wifes trooper was acting when the slave cylinder went out.

Yeah I'd agree with the others. Check the fluid/clutch engagement. The truck doesn't even need to be running, just crawl under the truck and watch the clutch fork to see if its moving while someone else presses the clutch pedal in. Fluid level is easy to check too, although some people have really tightened the lids on, so be careful not to break the reservoir off the firewall.

If The clutch is working ok. The problem is most likely a bad pilot bearing.
They are cheap to buy but you have to drop the tranny to put it in.
