Like I said, which one do you think is the best, most reliable and of course the fastest. I belive the area I'm moving into will have both.
I have a linksys router and multipul computers including a wireless laptop.
    Thanks.
    BTW, I did do a search ............

I'm on DSL myself. From what I understand, with DSL, you have your own port, but with cable you're part of a big system, which means if the system gets busy EVERYONE'S performance gets affected.

At least that's what I've heard........

Yep, that's true. DSL has no hampering affect on the speed of connection if there are a lot of people online. Cable slows down as more people get online within a certain area.

    cable faster costs more
    dsl slower cheaper
unless you are running a large home bis. out of your house you will never need the speed cable is capable of. DSL will make the average use very happy. and will save you quite a bit of money
my DSL with the house phone costs 25 a month
cable costs 49.95 a month alone.

Go cable if you can. There is nothing like downloading at 732kb a second. Before they sped it up, it was just a little over a half a meg a second. Still fast, but damn. If I am online at 1-3am I have hit 866kb download. DL a 10 meg file in 13 seconds is real nice. Plus, if you are DL videos or something else, you can still surf other things at normal speeds. Don't know about your area, but at peak times here I always get 450+ dl speeds.

    Thats just fast.

BTW I could hold 18 person LAN parties connected through one modem and still keep pings under 80, before they doubled the speed.

In my neck of the woods cable and DSL are about the same cost. Everyone says cable is faster, but my neighbor's cable and my DSL seem to run about the same. Since most of my neighbors are on cable, they get fluctuations in speed depending on the load at certain times of the day. My DSL works the same all the time. It just boils down to personal preference.

    Thanks everyone :thumb:
That's what I needed to hear. Sorry I haven't got back to you before this.
I guess I'll check out the prices etc.
I'm going to really hate the next couple weeks of using dail up until my new house is ready.
I won't be on here much because of it. Have a good one and thanks again.

Some cable companys off package deals. I have full digital cable, telephone, and high speed internet 8kbps all on one bill. I do have all the preuim movie channels and my bill is $123.00 a month. It's worth it to me.

I have had cable for 6+ years in three different locations. Currently I get 6+mb connection with cable. I use Packet8 VOIP for my land line phone service. This way I do not need any Local Phone company services. I have supported 3 different ISP over the years so I can trouble shoot any problem on my own.

Verizon is doing a pilot program in Keller, TX offering 35mb down and 5 mbs up for $50...bastards! This is using fiber to the door. I personally believe you can never too much bandwidth.

Cable is faster but not as reliable as DSL. It's great if all you do is surf and download stuff. If you play games online, you'll want DSL though. With cable, your connection is basically shared with your neighborhood "node". DSL, you have your own dedicated line, speed is always the same, doesnt change. It's all yours. Basically, if all your doin is surfin the net and downloading stuff, Cable is the best way to go. If you play games online or do anything that is dependant on low packet loss and/or low latency, or uploading you'll want DSL.

And you guys make it seem like DSL is mud compared to cable as far as downloading is concerned....My DSL is 3.0down/768up...I get 350kb/sec downloads all the time, 50k/sec upload. While it's not as fast as some cable, it's not slow either.

I'm on DSL and I couldn't be any happier. I'm not a dowload whore and buying songs and such online, so I don't need the huge speed.
