    Radiator upgrades for \'77??

Hey all...well, time for another repair. My radiator is leaking somewhere behind fan shroud....not sure where yet...just discovered it. If I end up needing/wanting a whole new radiator, what should I look for? I'm trying to replace any/all parts with better than OEM where possible, even if it's a little more money.
    Thanks again!
    Joe

What 4-core did you get ? I mean what model truck did you tell them? Did it fit right in with no mods?
I've talked to a couple of shops around here and they say there isnt a 4-core that fits. I hate trying to explain things to some of these people. You tell them you have seen it done and they still refuse to believe it, cause the book doesnt say it is. Can you give me some info? thanks

Autozone lists a 4-row for a '90 model for $159. Shops around here want $120 to boil and rod an old radiator! Might as well go for the mongo new one for only $39. [IMG]

Well I can't say how it fits cause it won't be here till tomorrow.........but I'll post then. Hope it is an exact fit, the guy on the phone was very helpful and we both felt after discussing it, that it will be exact.

I told them 79 K5 Blazer with the 400ci motor with AC............he had an exact match for factory. And since my truck is/was a 400ci factory motor with AC, and to the best of my knowledge the radiator in it is factory...........

I would think this same part number would work for you, but I can't say for sure.

Just got off the phone with Mark Dana, from Dana radiator here in Mesa... he knew what was in my truck more than I did!
Although it has a 350 in it now, my truck came stock with a 400....hence the 4 core. You can tell by the 4 mounting bolts right on top of the bracket...if they point at your belly, you've got what came with a 350. If they point down at yer toes, you have/had a 400... a brand new 4 core, with lifetime warranty, installed by them will be 225 + tax, antifreeze, etc.. and take 'em half a day...that breaks down to about 170 for the new radiator, plus 55 for install. For 55 bux...I'm gonna let them do it.

    Re: Radiator upgrades for \'77??

Someone posted earlier that a GM replacement radiator came aluminum with plasstic tanks. Since durability must not be an issue (newer trucks all use them I'm sure) a GM one would be a perfect upgrade. As long as it was a thick radiaotr, it will cool better than a copper/brass equivalent.

When mine goes, I will start checking into aftermarket (modine, etc) makers and see who is making one that will drop into our trucks. FWIW, some of the GM RWD car AL radiators, brand new, are cheaper than copper/brass, at about $125 each.
