I know that according to the tire gear calculator, that 35" tires would match 4.56 gears, but most 35" tires don't really measure 35", so would a 37" tire that measure 35.6" be ok with 4.56 gears?

Remember ont thing, that any number that you get is always a suggestion. It all comes back to your type of driving, and your preference.
I had 31" tires on 2.73:1 and I was very comfortable with it, it gave me 17MPG.
On my rock crawler I have 35" tires on 4.56:1 and I would like to have more.
I am also running 33" tires on 3.54:1 on my FSJeep for moderate rock crawling.

Also it depends what kind of power you have.
On my diesel K5 I run 35" tires on the stock 3.08:1 and that is real crawling. Max speed on highway 70mph.
