I see the bolt on the water pump - do you think it might also work if I put the balancer on and just create a white line on the balancer where the "zero" mark is on the teeth? That would give the the ability to advance or retard.

Yeah it works fine. That's what I did. Turned it till it was TDC to the old mark on the other engine Sighted down the bolts on the back of the water pump and made a mark. I advanced it till I got ping and backed it off about 2 deg. Ended up being at 10 deg of advance so I got it atleast withing about 2 deg of right with my eye (that amazed me cause I'm about a cross eyed fool). Set it 2 years ago and haven't touched it. As long as my wife puts in 89 we haven't had a problem.
If you want to get real fancy you could figure out the deg change between the timming tabs and put a mark on the ballancer that will work with the new style cover and be acurate. To be dead on 100% right find somebody with a degree wheel and you can figure out true TDC and again mark the ballancer.

It's not my damn planet monkey boy!

Whoa! How'd we suddenly get to a different thread? [IMG] I just posted this as a way to set your timing in the other timing-related thread that you have going. [IMG]
