I have a 1980 Blazer, and was curious what my rear end ratio is. I recently put in a fuel injected 305 and a 700r4. Probably gonna need a lower gear huh?
    thanks

either pull the cover and count the teath or jack up one side of the rear if it is an open dif and turn the tire one complet turn and count how many times the driveline makes a complet turn so say it turns 3 and3/4 you would have 3:73's 4 and 1/4 4:11's and so on

I agree 3.08s suck! I had them on 35's and a 4spd tranny i could get up to a nice high speed in my "4th" gear. I like my 4.56 now but alot lower top spede

If it's a stock rear, then the RPO codes should tell you. You can locate the RPO codes either in the glove box, or on the drivers fender well inside the engine bay.

If you can't find the RPO, or you don't think it's stock, then do the suggestions already given.

You will not need to change gears because of an engine/tranni swap. Lower gears are usually for larger tires. What size tires and/or lift are you running?

    Thomas.

On a side note, fill out your profile so we know what you are driving ..... 1980 blazer is a little vague........

Please for the love of god DON'T COUNT THE TEETH. I have nightmares of people pulling the cover off trying to count teeth, when the stupid ratio is stamped right on the outer edge of the ring gear, in front of your face.

I could only hold off on that tirade for so long. Sorry.

Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?

That wasn't very helpful. Would you care to explain why?

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
