I just recently bought a 86 K5 Blazer and it has no rear defroster on it and I wanted to add one. My first question is that a difficult job to do? Can I go to the boneyard to get the parts from a late model Chevy?

Someone mentioned a long time ago something about installing the ones from a burb. It sounded like two blowers on each side blowing towards the rear window. Perhaps he/she will post again please?

I do not think this was ever an option. I have seen doncos that have it, so it seems like it should be possible. You might check with a glass shop, they could tell you if it is possible and pricing. The other options were all w/ blowers or heaters.

I would imagine that wagoneers are a possibility too. I had an 85'.....The fullsize kind...not cherokee. their back glass iS Around that same size as a blazer. Also it's not the blowers like a 'burban. wagoneers have the defroster lines that run across the glass....i think you should be able to buy new defroster lines too....i really don't know how hard it would be to remove existing lines from a window.

According to the 87 Dealer Brochure found on http://www.slosh.com/cars/brochures/blazer4.html this was an option. You should be able to order the window through the dealer or maybe a glass shop and install a hi amp toggle switch yourself. I attached the picture.

No problem. I always wonder why you never see this option on any K5 Blazers. You will see it on a Suburban but never on a Blazer. Anyone have this option on their Blazer?

I work at a glass company and have never seen a defroster on a K5. I will check and see if one is available this week and get back to you. I think it would be too much of a pain in the a@@ to do. If the lines get too much juice the window will blow.
