Rear seat for a 73\' K5: What year models will fit in it?

I have a 73' Blazer with no rear seat. I want to put one in it, and was wondering if anybody knows what different year model Blazer's will bolt right in. Any experts out there? /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Not an expert but, I have the rear seat from a 77 burb in my 74 K5 right now. The supports for the armrest are a little different and are very close to the wheelwell but it does bolt in and fit. I believe the seat you need is from a 73-76 K5 or 73-78or79 Suburban.

I know '73-76 rear seats are interchangable, not identical but every thing lines up. I would guess that '77 will also work because they have the same floor, but I don't know anyone w/ a '77 to confirm that. '78-91 are deffinatly different.

The rear floor pan for the Blazer changed for '78, so the rear seat is the same 73-77, that much I'm sure of. Looks like the '78+ seat is the flip-down, snap-in variety, as opposed to the older bolt-down affair.

Burbs got the quick-release seat for '79.

(shameless plug) This kind of stuff is where the brochures page shines -- though you do hafta dig. The '79 Chevy Burb pamphlet has a bit about "New for '79" and a pic of the folding seat, as does the '78 Blazer about the flip-down. The older trucks have the, well, older style.

I put a seat from an '87 into my '74. I had to make some custom brackets, but it was easy to do. The front hinge portions are a direct bolt in in the stock location of the back seat. It was cheap, easy, and looks good too /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif If you're interested in doing what I did, let me know. I still have the drawings for the rear seat brackets and could do a simple write up for you. PM me if you want.

    Rear seat mod

Try the link and see if it works. That should show you some pics of my rear seat install.

The big problem w/ doing that is the seat sits directly on the floor. The '73-77 used a seat on raised brackets so your feet had somewhere to go. The '78-91 used a larger footwell area so the seat could be mounted to floor and still give somewhere to put your feet. If its just little kids back there it won't be too bad, but if you plan on having anyone over the age of 10 in that seat for an all day wheeling or road trip get ready for some bitching.

The seat sits approx. 1" lower than stock. It's the rear floor pan that lends to most of the complaints. Also, For the long trips, I put in a second mounting point so that the seat is mounted almost all the way to the back of the bed. Plenty of room to stretch out the legs! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Anybody put any thought into modifying the seat so as to raise it the 1" necessary to match the stock seat? I haven't looked at it myself...

Raising the seat would be easy, but then you'd have seat mounts that stick up when the seat is folded up. I wanted to keep my floor flat, so I didn't bother.

That's a good idea. I might move the Jeep seat I'm going to use in the '73 back more than stock when I put it in. Its light and quick release so location is not an issue when not in use.

I'm still looking for a rear seat. These are good ideas, too bad I can't find a good seat locally... /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif
