The left rear upper shock mount is broken. How hard id it to replace? Does it bolt on, or weld on? Do i have to lift the body off the frame to get to it?

The Chevy house wants $18 for the bracket. Is it avaliable cheeper?

    Thanks.

That bracket is riveted on from the factory. I repaired my upper left bracket once, lower right side twice and upper right side once then I got fed up and relocated the upper shock mounts to fix the problem for good. The rear suspension on a K5 has a lot of flex and the shocks mounted in the factory locations tend to bottom out easily and shear mounts off.

Here is a look at relocated shocks on Steve Fox's Blazer.

You'll see the fronts and rears relocated...in my opinion the rear is much more critical because it will prevent further breakage as well as allow for more flex.

As for repairing what you have...when I did the left side bracket I welded up the broken bracket. It is difficult to get to and I would guess even harder to replce than to re-weld.

If you want to eliminate those problems all together, then contact Steve Frisbie and order the new upper shock mount crossmember and housing brackets for your application. I have this setup and it is going to be awesome. I will let you know how things go after the installatoin.

I broke my upper rear right shock mount off as well. I ordered the replacement part from GM for $14 but then I decided to do with Steve Frisbie's shock relocation kit...so that is now on order....I still have the factory bracket if you want...I'll sell if for $5, you pay actual shipping...
