My truck is a 1980 1/2 ton long bed, with a 12 bolt rear. I'm swapping in a 14bff rear axle from a 1975 Suburban, and I have noticed that the drivers side shock will not bolt up to the existing mount on the 14bff. It looks like I will need to cut the mount, and rotate it about the axle tube towards the rear, and then reweld it. The passenger side appears to work. Both mounts hang down below the axle tube.

Since I have to modify one mount, would it be worthwhile to modify both, so that they don't hang down so much (something less to snag on stuff on trails). If its worthwhile to modify both mounts, what would you do? Just looking for thoughts here.

My truck is a daily driver, but I am building it up to run trails, and maybe try some rockcrawling.
