    Rear Window \"PITA\"

I know there has been lot's of posts regarding an inoperative rear window. My problem is that the window will not roll up or down. The switch works, so the problem is probably motor related.

My question is, How do you get it down when the motor doesn't work?

    All input is appeciated.

    86 Silverado K5.

Have you checked to make sure that the window is still in the track. My cousin had a 74 that had some rear window trouble because one side was out of the track. It wouldnt go down but the handle and mechanism were in good shape.

Have you driven OVER a Ford lately?

try checking your connections...if it is even a lil undone it may not make good enough contact to get it to function..or it may have jumped out of the track...I would check the connections first, before you start dismanteling the tailgate to get to it.
Good luck... We had to use a battery and jumper cables when we got ours from a salvage yard and it was up...but you have to make sure it has a good connection or it won't work....let us know what you find out...never know when it will happen.

get in the back of the truck and pull the access panel off the tail gate. undo the cable at the motor and hook up an electric screw gun. This way you can get it down to replace the motor. One other thing, check the safety switch in back... mine was bad so I looped the circut and now it works fine, I just have to be careful not to roll the window up while the tailgate is down.

Have been stuck (once) as of 8/12/00

You can undo the cable from the motor and use a drill to raise/lower the glass. I had some wiring fry under the truck and used the drill instead of fixing it[IMG]

Grab window firmly from both sides and yank it out of the tailgate. Then buy Skyler, Kayline, or Canback so you won't ever have to worry about it again.

I thought my elec motor was bad....but cable was rusted inside and the good motor couldn't budge it. Be S U R E to lock the scissors mechanism! Drill a hole thru and temporarily place a screw thru both arms, locking them in position. I learned the hard way and nearly lost a finger.
