Do either the key or the dash switch work? If neither are working, sounds like your not getting power back to the motor, or the safety switch went out, or you have a bad ground.

Grounds are easily fixed by cleaning, the safety switch is easily by-passed, only hard part would be trying wire faults.

But if you are getting power back to the motor, then the motor might be bad.

That will give you a few things to check /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Safety switch is the first thing to check -- they're notorious for failing.

The dead giveaway is that the window will go down, but not up.

Fiddle with the latch on the ... passenger side, I think... well, heck, fiddle with both. My experience is that mine stop working every now and again and banging on them sets them loose.

Do not, however, bang too hard. There's a foot-shaped dent in my otherwise nice CUCV tailgate because of that /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

sorry for the hijack, but my dads sometimes goes up but will not go down. you mentioned that the safty switch will let it go down but not up, are you sure its not the other way around? where would you find the safty switch. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

the safety switch is on the inside of the tailgate attached to one of the latches....most people just unplug the wires from the switch and splice them together to by-pass it /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

My back window is a pain in the butt also. I am trying to figure a way to install a lift gate like the new Blazers and Tahoe.
The rear glass is also hard to find. After market glass is safety glass not tempered. Don't touch the edge of saftety glass with anything hard. Also most aftermarket glass has the wrong curve or arc to run smoothly in the tracks.
I may try some plexiglass to loose some of the weight.

Also, the cable can be bound up. If it has never been lubed, check it out.
I have replaced everything but the safety switch in mine. Be careful the regulator is spring loaded to go up. The regulator will take a finger off.

Uhh, everything's inside the tailgate. If you have carpet on it, remove it, and remove the access panel on the gate, the one shaped like this

    /---------\...../---------\
    |---------|.....|---------|
    |-------------------------|
    |-------------------------|
    |-------------------------|
    \-------------------------/

and it's all in there, though not wonderfully accessible.

facing the inside of the tailgate, the motor is located just to the right of the handle and up at the top of the tailgate. Cable runs down to the bottom, around behind the regulator and up the otherside of the tailgate to the transmission(thats just whats its called lol)which is bolted to the regulator.

    Anything else?

I have been hving problems with my window too. But I went out yesterday and WD-40ed the latches and the safty switch and now it seems to work pretty good. Much easyer than taking it apart /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

Try opening up the access panel and removing the window regulator cable found at the bottom of the window. Once you get it removed, try pressing the switch and see if you can hear the window motor turning. If it is, then the cable is just bound up from not being lubed. That was all that was wrong with mine, and Muddytazz sold me a new cable for $8.
