For the last 2 weeks my exhaust has smelled really bad,and not normal. It almost get's me sick when I get a whif of it. Everything seems to be fine (Plugs, wires, and gas mileage) so what gives? anybody have this problem before? It's a crate 350 from the dealer and it has about 50,000 miles on it..

It's probably your cat... they smell bad sometimes... it's a nasty smell too! [IMG] Buy some deodorizer and run it and it might help it...

Come on Steph, put it back. It was your signature trademark. Besides, I have a ton of recipes for spotted owls.

Lose the cat completely and it'll smell kinda sweet if it's tuned right.

Been getting gas at a different place than normal? The last time I got gas at Arco my exhaust smelled like lawn fertilizer until it was completely burned out.

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all[IMG]

I will second, third and fourth the cat being bad. The way they have been screwing with the gas lately, who knows what you might be getting!!

If I had to have a cat I'd sell my truck.

But you can use the Vortec style cat instead when you replace it, they're nice and don't make the exhaust any quieter, unlike other, bead type, restrictive cats.

Ya I'm on the bandwagon for the Cat being finished. Are you losing any power? Engine running at all different?

i've got a similar question on my non chevy. My exhaust smells like raw fuel. Recently gave it new plugs, wires, cap/rotor, but it still smells that way. Power is normal, mileage may be down slightly. It's a '96 F150 with a fuel injected 300 6 cyl. What could it be?

if you have a raw fuel smell, then one (or more) cylinder(s) is not firing or not burning completely. Fuel goes in, compresses, expands, goes out. No ignition or not complete before being sent out the exhaust pipe.
Stretch a rag over you exhaust pipe and run it for a few minutes. Then light the rag (in an open field or somewhere it will be safe if it blows up). If it ignites easy, then you definately have fuel passing the cylinders without burning. Older enignes this is more common, newer engines (96), this shouldn't be, even with EGR closed.

I've seen cars with one plug wire off the plug that run smooth until you gas it. Maybe there's a loose wire? broken wire? To check that, start the engine at night, kill your under-hood light and look for sparks anywhere of any size. If you dont' see any, you should be good on obvious shorts (some guys mist water around to see if there's more spark).
Check your spark plug gap, plugs for fouling, etc.
Even if your timing was way retarded, it should still not leave much fuel in the exhaust.

    Good luck!

    Ratch

I'm gonna take the Blaze over to the exhaust shop later today, and they are gonna check out the cat...The motor has run a little different than normal ever since the smell started. I use the same gas at the same Cheveron station that I always use.. The plugs, wires, and cap are recently been replaced. Everything looks good...

Someone Help me! My exhaust stinks too. ITs a walker highflow cat with only about 6,000 on it. It smells like low tide. I don't get a SES light. All my sensors are good. I have tried blowing it out to. Rev up to like 5 grand.
