Does anyone know what the red line for a 1977 Chevy 305 is? it is in my 1977 Chevy pickup not original motor there was a 350 in it from factory which someday I will put one back in.

I think all stock OHV V8's have the same red line, at around 5500 to 6000.
I never drove any stock engine that could reach that point, they seem to run out of torque around 5200 or 5500 RPM.

I've had my tbi 350 up to 6000 but it was a mistake, it sounded okay and nothing bad happened, it was only for a few seconds though. 5000 should give you a nice comfy range to play in, the auto's all shift between 4000 and 4500. Hope this helps.
