Well not a problem but I am wondering if the metal hooks at the bottom are important? All I can figure is that they are for safety incase the tailgate rusts off it wont fly off into traffic. I am fixing the rust and installing a roll pan and I need to cut these off...does anyone know if this is a big deal.

Those are torsion springs to help little old ladies lift the gate back up...[IMG] I chucked mine when i installed my custom bumper and wanted to crowd the body a bit.

...little old ladies and old farts like me....I removed mine also, they really help allot! It's still not too bad, but they make quite a difference. They attach inside the 'gate, up each side, with some brackets. The "horns" on my '74 frame are removable....if your's are take them off and see if you like the weight....they're easier to put back on if needed.
