The onset of the cold weather has caused my truck to show signs of a low battery at start-up. I was under the impression that one of the batteries powered the starter and one powered the GPs. If so, am I able to just replace the battery that powers the starter or is recommended that you replace both batteries at the same time?

Replace both batteries at once if you can otherwise the older one will draw power from the new one then the power will go back and forth eventually discharging both batteries if there is enough difference in charge between the two.

The batteries are not isolated from one another and are hooked in parallel, so in effect they just become one larger battery. Replace them both, use the good one for your trailer or something...if you have a good one left.

Thanks lads. I still have to make sure it's not starter or alternator related before I go spend a couple of hundred dollars on two 1000 CCA batteries....... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

yeah that is what I did for that same reason.

The bad one will always ruin a good one.
    Just like people /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

And the way to go is 1000CCA Optimas or equivalent in EXIDE.

they should replace them both at the same time, explain to them what type of vehicle they are in. And remond them that only replacing one will cause them both to fail quicker than expected. Its worked for me.
