Swapping out my 305 for a crate 350 on January 20th. Purchased an Edlebrock Q-jet to replace the original. My 86 has a computer controlled carb which I believe used some type of throttle position sensor. Am I going to have problems when I install the new carb? Has anyone done this before and how do I bypass the computer? Will the truck run without the computer connected to the carb?

Thanks for any help you all can give me!!

Assuming you are running the 700-R4, you will lose lockup. You will increase the temp in the tranny, and depending on who you talk to, will shorten the life of it. (Personally I don't believe thats true) In any case, the 700 is extremely prone to having serious problems when it heats up, which running without lock up does. An extremely large auxilliary cooler should be run if you DO dump the CCC carb. May I ask why you are dumping it? You will also need a new/older distributor, and yes, it should throw the entire computer system out of whack, you can't remove sensor inputs to the ECM and expect it to work right, although your chances are 50/50. For probably less cost, you could buy a Holley II rebuilt and tested CCC Q-jet for likely less than the Edelbrock...and not lose lockup, as well as keep the driveability and better mileage the CCC carb provides. all IMO of course.

IMO Edelbrock missed a large market by not offering a NEW CCC Q-jet....
