Those of you running Avalanche Engineering Rock Rings - on your 14 bolt - does the ring "nestle" inside the lip around the outer edge on the OEM cover, or do you need to grind the lip off on the OE cover?

You have to grind the lip off so the outer rim is completely flat.

FYI - sometime in the last few years (I think when they introduced the HD body style) GM started producing the 14 bolt cover without the lip.

Okay but isn't the 14 bolt for the HD style trucks different - I believe those are an 11.5" ring gear?

They actually offer 2 rear axles now, the 14 bolt (10.5" ring) and a new 11.5" ring gear axle. The bigger axle comes in the 8.1 BBC and diesel applications.
