They are (I believe) 2.5-ton and 5-ton rated. The pinion comes in over the top, above the ring gear (but not vertical). Talk to Boyce, they advertise in the big 4x4 mag's. They're good for coolness factor, but very heavy and have huge drum brakes.

You don't want them, but you want to know about them?!?! [IMG]

Come awwnnn!!! You want some and you know it!!! [IMG]

Those axles are "top loaders", meaning the axles power is fed from the top. It goes down to the ring gear via a "third member" in which the pinion is residing.

Gear ratios for the 2.5 tons are like 6.72:1 and the 5 tons have like two different ratios. Something like 6-something and 10-something.

Boyce can supply just about any set up you want. Get a catalog from them. I have one and gave one to Rene when he stopped by on his "famous trip".

Yeah, those and just all of them in general. I keep hearing of them, but I dont know anything about them, just that they are F'N huge! I was just wondering if there is a site, or anything that tells what they are exactly, what they came off of, you know just backround type info.

    Hey thanks Pete!
So these things just came in Military trucks? I saw 2 or 3 got them out of 6x6's. Is that all they come in? And that pinion brake sounds interesting, do you happen to know of a close up shot of that? So on these axles, I saw if you want to run a "normal" size rim you have to remove the drum brakes, but does that mean that the only brakes you can run are the pinion brakes?? These things are interesting[IMG]!!

Mychal, call Boyce Equipment and get one of their catalogs. It will show you pics and everything they do and can do to the Rockwells. Good catalog too, just the prices suck though! [IMG]
