    Re: RPM\'s?

It's governed to 3600 RPM which makes it awefully hard to over rev it. Having a SM465 I have found the governor once/forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif on a shift from 2nd to 3rd. It was like someone shut off the fuel...I guess I held it just a bit too long before shifting/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

For tach's do a search on this forum. It's come up a few times in the last couple of months.

Stewart-Warner makes a nice tach. 0-3500 RPM with a 3 5/8" diameter face. It is available thru carquest- $105-120, sender is about $30-35. Picks up it's signal from the flywheel teeth.

    And yes, 3600rpm.

I'll post the part #s when we get everything ironed out.
Finally got the instructions for the tach, weren't in the box, and it don't look like it'll work with the sender. I have SW's 800# and will try to get ahold of their tech line for the proper part#s. Might even turn out I have what I need, will keep you all posted.

    OK, have part numbers.
    Carquest#(Stewart-Warner#)
    Tachometer---CPS 80588(82636)
    Mag pickup---CPS 80816(990-K)
I paid $116.96 for the tach and $30 for the pickup. Correction on the size, it is 3 3/8 dia, not 3 5/8. 0-3500 rpm.

So how does the pick up work? How do you install it? Do you need to pull the tranny?

I'm gonna try and mount it to the aluminum inspection cover. It has a 3/4-16 external thread on the sensor, so you drill and tap a 3/4-16 hole and turn it in until it's close enough to the teeth. You could pull the trans if you wanted to mount it thru the trans case I guess.
