Hiya, Just wondering what tranny comes in the S-Jimmys. I have access to an 84 Jimmy S-15, that has a 5 spd std trans, and was curious if its a good candidate for a swap into my fullsize 85.
    Thanks.

That 5 speed was designed to live behind a 2.8 V-6 or a 4 cylinder. Your 350 would kill it in no time...

Why not a SM 465 if you want a standard? Most come backed by a NP 205 and that combo is virtually indestructable. Best of all they're not too expensive and bolt right in.

It is not worth the time to put it together. Those s-10 5 speeds couldn't hold up to the 2.8 and 4.3 V-6's they lived behind, let alone behind any V-8 4X4. Go with a sm465 It holds up to plenty of abuse.

If you are trying to find a 5 speed thats cheaper than a 4500, I suppose you could look into the NV3500 that came in 1/2 ton and LD 3/4 ton trucks, while it is not as strong as the 4500, and lacks a granny gear, it would be cheaper. For street driving, it may actually be better (provided it is not overly abused).
