    The scare of a lifetime……

Well, I put this out here for reference only and to encourage everyone to keep an eye on their health, please take it for what it’s worth!

Long story short…I suffered from a pulmonary embolism and an eventual mild heart attach on Wednesday morning. I woke up around 7 am short of breath, passed out and was awaked by my wife and the Chandler Fire Department. Had it not been for her quick thinking and the response of the CFD I probability wouldn’t be here to write this.

I can not stress how “Heart healthy” a person I am, 37 yrs old, no smoking, no drinking, a little overweight but I eat wisely and have no heart problems in my family…according the doctors, I am in perfect cardiac health…years of power lifting built a strong heart for me…THANK GOD!!!

The Cause…..blood clot from my leg!!!!! About two months ago I severely bruised the inner calf on my right leg while working on the blazer…really black and blue but I didn’t think much of it as we all get bruised from time to time. Well, apparently a portion broke free and moved it’s way into my lungs ending up on both sides compressing my pulmonary artery. This caused the respiratory distress and prevented my heart from being able to move enough blood through out my system…..and god damn did it hurt!!!!

So, after spending 4 days in CICU, scaring my wife and family to death I truly encourage you to keep any eye on your health. We are all pretty young guys’ and I would have never given this a second though but I promise, I will now.

Thanks for listening…it feels good to talk about this as it’s the first time I have ever faced life or death.

Well thank God you're able to type this!!! It's amazing how we, at times, take life for granted and/or we're healthy. Right? Glad all is well with you now. Lookin forward to meetin you and yours.

Glad to hear your ok.... If you need anything let me know and if I can help I will... I hear you about taking care of yourselves. Right after thanksgiveing last year I was coughing hard enough to knock myself out. I did this at work and at least 4 other times that I know of. I went to the hospital to be checked out and nothing was found to be wrong so they told me it was from after effects to broncidus I had @ Thanksgiving.

Glad to hear you are ok. As far as being alive. Have the Doctors said anything that will help cure this problem?

There's nothing I can really do...they put me on blood thinners for at least the next 6 months but the only thing they can find was from the "Clots" from my legs. If the clots are "Hederity" (SP) I may have to be on them for the rest of my life.

They all agree that once I can get back to the gym, it will lower the possibility but as it stands right now, there's not much I can do. I have a follow up with a specialist on Friday, maybe a second opnon will offer some more insite.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

could i ask a serious question? I only ask this because this is how my mother started out. Have they tested you for MS. My mother was a professional ballroom and latin dancer for many years. Then all of a sudden she started to get bruising on her legs and then clots started to form. That started in the early 80's. Well it wasn't until 1995 that they diagnosed her with MS.( Multiple Sclirosis) Sorry if i spelt that wrong. And they dated it back to the 80's.

    Thank you for asking!!!!!!

It's not something I had considered or something they mentioned but I will ask on Friday. I have to be honest, I am very concerned, so much so that I can barely sleep...I'm concerned I'll have another episode and not wake up...I know it's silly but I am that concerned over this. Everything I have read says the mortaility rate is about 80% and it scares the hell out of me becase they can't tell my why it hapended. I mean I' ve gottten bruises my whole life, who hasn't but why now!?!?!?!?

Thank you for bringing up the MS...I really appreciate the input and I will have them look into it. :waytogo:

No problem. The only reason why i mentioned it is simply because i have seen what this disease can do to a person. both mentally and physically. My mother is fairly young. Only 19 years older than i am. Here are some of her symptoms. Now keep in mind not all happen at the same time.

    Mild heart attacks
    loss of breathe
    weight gain
cannot walk for a long distance
    loss of appitite

She takes a boat load of medication because of this. She is also has to ride her motorized scooter thing when she want to go somewhere. She has been given her last rights a couple of times. So far she has surpassed it each time.

Not trying to scare you. But this is a serious issue that seems to be more common now a days. From everything that i have read on it. It seems not to be something that is Hereditary. Most people are affraid to talk about it cause there is no cure for it.

Please keep us informed on your status. If there is anything that we could possibly do i am positive you will have a ton of support.

Same thing happened to a buddy at work about 5 years ago, and he is still with us and doing well now. He takes an aspirin every day now, but that's all. I wish you well.---------------------------------------------------------

Glad to hear everything is working out for you. On a similiar note I ran I call on a 32 year old female that went into full arrest. Not sure why it had occured but there was no one there with her and she did not make it to the phone to call 911. We were not able to revive her.

Thanks so much for all the positive input!!! I really do appreciate it and will keep you posted as I work through this. I'm looking forward to my appt. tomorrow, maybe I'll have a better understanding of what's going on and what I can do to prevent it from happening again.

Onlychevy6.........Thanks for sharing, I imagine that it can be difficult to talk about and I do appreciate it. I truely hope your mother is doing well and as you all mentioned, if there's anything I can do to help, please do not hesitate to ask.

Hope everything turned out well at the doctors.
VITAMIN`S, Everybody needs them, no matter how well you eat, we can not get enough vitamins & minerals through are food.
Bruising is not good for anybody, when you bruise, it is because your blood vessel`s are weak, number one cause, is lack of Vitamin C.
Vitamin C builds up the walls of your blood vessel`s, so it is harder to bruise.
Vitamin E will thin the blood natuarly. Everybody should be doing Cardio exercise at least 30 minutes at a time, and 3-4 times a week to exercise the heart. It doen`t matter how thin you are, your heart is a muscle, and if you do not exercise it, it will get weak. If you get Vitamin C, only use in a time released form, you can get all of your vitamins at your grocery store.
Lack of Zinc, is one of the number one reasons for Prostate cancer.
If you want more info on what vitamins to take , PM me or I can post up it up. You can get books on vitamins by Earl Mindell and other vitamin info. Anything that goes wrong with human body, is a result of some lack of a vitamin or mineral.
    Basic vitamins that I take.
A&D in the same pill 1-2 (when I take them)
    B-100 time released 3-4 " "
    C - 3000mg time released " "
    E - 400 IU 1 pill " "
    Zinc 60mg 1 pill " "
Calcium & manesium 3 pills " " I put when I take them, because I don`t take mine everyday. Hope this helps some people. You can search the web on the basic vitamins I have listed to find out what they do for the body, and if you don`t have enough of them, you can also find out what happens to the body when it is lacking a certain vitamin.

well, I'm back and it's been a crazy week for me. All my appt's have gone well and the area of my lungs affected by the clot is starting to clear up. I ended up spending a couple of nights back in the hospital but all is well. According to my doctor it will take a month or two for the remaing balance to disolve and I should be back to "normal".

This has been quite an expierence for me........the amount of emotion it has caused both my family and I is incredible! It's sort of funny.......I never realized how much I take for "Granted" the love and support your family can offer.

And for you guy's on the board...thank you so much for taking the time to post! I really do appreciate your kind words and support! My wife was checking it once in a while and was keeping me as up to date as possible (Gotta love that). I hope to start working on the truck in the next month.......I hope!

    Thanks again guy's!!!!!
