Scenario Question. What would you do?

Discussion in '1973-1991 K5 Blazer | Truck | Suburban' started by **DONOTDELETE**, Feb 16, 2001.

I have the entire front clip taken off my truck, so I can walk right up to the engine. My question, or Poll if you will, is what would you do while the front was apart? I am going to replace the water pump, fuel pump, raidiator hoses, and the belts. Battery is a piece of crap, so I am going to get a new one also. What else should I check for?

Oh, I have never replaced any parts since I bought it, so I figured this was a good time.

WOW well I guess I would just do as much as I thought would be easyier with the clip off than if it was on and if fundage permits EVERYTHING I could afford to replace.

I would replace the timing chain and gears if it has not been done. While you're in there that far, slap in a new cam and lifters.

I'd go over my steering box area with a fine tooth comb and look at installing an ORD brace. With the front end sheetmetal off it'll all be easy to see.
Oh yeah I'd slap in a 502 Ram-jet if the fundage was there[IMG][IMG]

Man while you got it that far apart Timming chain, front seal, and pan seal (you can get the pan off with out lifting the motor), Motor mounts, and every seal that looks like it is seaping I would replace while you can sit on the tire and do it easy. I would adjust the valves while you got the covers off. Might even want to swap the heater core. Fuel pump and lines might not be a bad idea either and same with power steering lines and give it a tune up.

Along with what everyone else said I would also check for any rust on the firewall and repair it and reseal the heater box and any holes throug it. Also I would pressure wash the front frame and suspention and paint it all. Also check your wiper motor mounts and put new ones on if needed.

Check/replace the core support mounts. Get the radiator roded out. Check the wiring harness for chaffing, what about installing some headers? How are your fenders? Do they need any body work or replacing? You might want to spray some rubberized under-coat on the inside bottom of the fenders.

It's not what you buy, it's what you build!

I'd replace the motor mounts and definately the battery tray!!!! Mine broke the other day. I never thought about checking it. My battery has never leaked or spilled over. Timing chain is a good idea too. Maybe even check your exhaust studs at the bottom of your manifold.
