Screw people who don\'t understand my K5 project!!!

Alright, so my K5 is my project and daily driver as well. Right now my interior is COMPLETELY gutted (except for my driver seat), the body is in lovely sanded primer and 3 different colors, the top is off, the grille and headlight bezels are off, it looks like a junkyard dog, but I think it looks beautiful. Anyway, since I drive it everyday to and from work every day, I am constantly having people make fun of it (and me) while here at work. I just wanted to vent and say "SCREW YOU!!!" to all those who just don't get it!!!! Some people just don't understand the blood, sweat, and tears that it takes to put all of your time and efforts to build something you really love. Do any of you guys get the same thing?!!! There. I feel much better now since I can't actually tell these people to go screw themselves here at work.

I can relate to that! My boss keeps calling my Jimmy a big POS...[IMG] I would love to tell him what I think of his poseur mall truck but he lets me use the shop to work on my truck on the weekends...
All my neighbors ask when I'm going to get a new truck...I just tell them that I just did, its one year newer than the old one [IMG]

Yes my truck is cosmetically challenged...get over it.

Sounded like you were talking about my Blazer for a second. My interior is gutted with only the drivers seat too. Without the boots around the shifters or carpet, you can see the ground, driveshaft, etc from inside. And its really, really noisy with no insulation. Yours the same way?

Well, sometimes people I know wonder why I sold a perfectly good running s-10 with a/c. I smirk an evil grin........like this >:-) and say, "I didn't buy it like you did.....I'm building it." <---got that from CK5!

You gotta be kidding me!! We have twin trucks! I like to look at the passing pebbles on the asphalt through the shifter hole without the boot! HA! Nice warm air runs through that. Its a good way to make sure your headers are "working" okay. And the noise, forget it! One of these days the insulation will go in...

6. Re: Screw people who don\'t understand my K5 project!!!

Yeah! Guys at my work are always saying "why don't you just buy a new truck like I have" I just say yeah and make the $400 payments on it every month, then the $200/month in insurance. No thanks!!!

It's mine outright, and I just pay my money to the truck, not the "man"...

On a side note last week one of those guys who is always saying that, was 3 hours late for work, when we asked him why; he said he had a blowout and had to wait for AAA to come change his tire???? WTF is that about???!?!?!

yup me too.. I was called a redneck the other day because of my blue door, black top, white body(except for accents of rusty metal primer) and no interior. I asked the lady (who I never met before) what she drove and she said a 82 escort
so I said "well since we are sterotyping only fat people drive
escorts" (which she was) boy did she get pissed. then I said
that my redneck ride could run over her tin can and asked her if she wanted me to show her she said no. (dammit) and then she said she was sorry for calling me a redneck..

Funny, I always get the pitty thing like, you drive that old Blazer because you must not be able to afford a new truck. I have to spend 10 min explaining why I choose to drive a real truck and why they are better. Oh well, SCREW um.

Same boat here. No carpet, took out the side panels in the back nothing fancy inside. The outside still has the stock old school paint but, hey I love it. I don't care what people say because I know what I want it to look like in a few years. It gets me around and I can always go topless and then I get even more stares. Blazers Rule!!

Heh. I love my truck for many reasons, some of which include, "Da heck is that thing?" or "What are you some kinda redneck?" I mean heck.. I drove it to a corporate event, and parked it next to all their lexus and BMW's and their poser SUV's... it was hilarious. But many people noticed and said "nice truck".

My feelings, [censored] em. You bought it, who gives a [censored] what they think about it. I catch hell all the time, doesn't bother me. They bought their truck/car for a reason, I bought and am building mine for a reason. I don't even bother to pull theirs down, just let it slide. Karma will catch up to them.

It's very simple. Those who drive the newer and more expensive vehicles are almost ALWAYS the ones to call for people like us to pull them out of mud, water, sand, etc. Then when they see what an "ugly POS" can REALLY do, they sell theirs and go buy a POS just to be cool like us!!! What a bunch of pathetic losers!!! [IMG]

BTW, how can tRusty's boss call that masterpiece a "POS"?!?!?! What was wrong with it? I didnt see a damn thing! I bet the boss's truck COULD NOT make a trip like Rene did in that short of time, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [IMG]

tRusty is AWESOME, even for a wrecked truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [IMG]

Oh you think you're bad, I've had mine apart and going back together in the shop for almost 2 years now. They all ask me when I'm going to get it running, or what's taking so long. Or they wonder why I dont just sell it and quit pouring money and time into a shop ornament. I just say hey, it's my thing. You've got your fancy cars, or your golf, leave me the F*** alone!!!

Oh yeah btw, I dont get this rear panel thing. Mine never had any. Doesn't have a headliner, an interior light, carpet, or anything. Wonder if chev made a super stripped model or something. Doesn't bother me cause I added to it and pulled the doors, top, and wacked the body up ala sawzall and circular saw.

But yeah I hear where you're comin from Loud $ Clear

I think we're all with you on this one BigTex!! I'm so sick of the"...where are ya goin with that thing...?" or "..what are you building that for...?" For me to drive anywhere I want including over your POS, overpriced piece of junk, A$$H@!e!!
On top of that, I get the additional aggravation of living where no junkyard has 1 single piece for a Blazer or a 1-ton truck! And most parts stores don't know what you want even after you give'm a part no!!!! JUST PURE AGGRAVATION!!!
Another reason to be greatful to Steve for this site! It reassures me that I'm not the only one who loves 4x4's & actually knows a few part names!

Yeah, I used to have a new Cherokee, then got a new 2dr 4X4 Yukon, and now I own just my Blazer. People are always asking, "What's the matter? You couldn't afford the payments?" I just tell them, "No, I got this truck because it is what I WANT TO DRIVE, not to impress YOU!" Or everyone thinks I hunt for a living. Ha! Too many people trying to keep up with the Joneses...

People used to give me crap when the entire dash was gone in my K5. I even had the instrument cluster out. Wires were sticking out everywhere. But now it looks so sweet and the new stereo sounds so good, it was all worth it.

hahaha I live in Yuppieville East Snob (East Cobb county GA where most of the fat cats live if they don't live in North Fulton). I laugh at the looks I get. I have a bumpersticker on the back now that says "And your whinny butt opinion would be?" When I was building the truck I really had it tore down. No doors, no fenders no gate, stripped out interrior, core support was held up by a 2x4 screwed to the fire wall.
Every couple of weeks I would take a couple laps around the neighbor hood with it like that too keep it freed up....GOD my neighbors would give the evil eye. It spent it's first year at my house wrapped in a big green tarp. My next door neighbor was pretty cool about it. He use to come over and watch me put it back together. Now that it's on the road again most folks in my neighborhood have relaxed.
It's still wrapped in that tarp over the summer when the roof is off to keep the birds from crapping in it LOL. It's all one color again hahaha.
