Sealing up an np205 with RTV instead of the \"felt gaskets\"?

I was wondering if any of you have had luck with using RTV Gasket Maker to seal up a 205 instead of the 'factory' felt gaskets? I need to tear my 205 apart this weekend and paint it and was wodering if I whould have better sealing capability with RTV or the felt gaskets....

    Thanks in advance....

I think the normal gasket would work better. I just have a feeling anything else won't seal well. One idea, you can buy those sheets of gasket material now, make your own! Only like $2/sheet I think, depending on the type of material.

I got a whole pack of different gasket material at Napa. They had different materials for different types of gaskets, it was pretty sweet. I think it was like $15 or so. But you got a couple sheets of 4 different materials. I had to make a gasket for an oil filter adapter on my buddies Heep, so I bought the make yourown sheets because you can get that gasket anywhere. I now carry all the stuff I didn't use in my truck incase I need it on the trail.

As Hoss said, Napa, or any other auto parts store anymore apparently. Schucks carries it up here.

I think the bearing retainers require the gasket in place to provide clearance for the snap ring retainers.
    mic it to see
