setting timing?

    i've been told to retard it a few degrees, i'll be honest, i've never done it, what do i do? i just got the distibutor cap of, and since i have a 2" dropped t-case that was the biggest bitch ever. . .EVER 20 minutes on the back left clip, just for 90 degrees of turn!! AHH!

    No need to pull the cap.
    1.Use a timing light, see where it's timed at now, with vacuum advance disconnected, and blocked off, then if it need's adjusting, loosen the distributor hold down clamp, 9/16" wrench, and rotate the distributor clockwise, until the appropriate degree mark line's up with the pointer above or beside the dampner.

    oh, no, i have no timing light, and i cannot get the truck started, they said just a couple degrees back, and just make a mark where it's at now.

    Just loosen the clamp and move the dist. about an 1/8" then. and give it a try.
