I was hooked up with a 1/2 dozen of these back in my sponsored days.. If I had known then, what I know now...

Too bad all mine got turned into kindling and toothpicks... I figured it out 1 night.. If I had the 50 or so decks from those early years, they'd be worth over 100 grand these days... :doah: :( :haha:

Yup, select mint decks from that era run $1000 to $5000...

They are exceptionally rare... Think about it, it's an item designed to be destroyed...

Unless of course, someone bought it, fell on there arse, and put it away in a closet somewhere...

Not to drag this off course, but WTF is a long board?

haha, was that just some question you where wondering?

anyway, it's exactly what you'd guess it to be, a longer board.. most decks are in the 30" to 33" range.. That deck is a 30".. decks aren't usually considered a long board till about 36", most being in the low 40's, but some run 50" and up..

generally longboards are meant for mellow cruising, bombing hills and such... But I used to ride a few 38" to 40"s in the drainage ditches back in the day.. It's a very different feel...

I've dorked around on vert with em, but there are guys that rip pools on long boards...

Na, I used to know a guy that always bragged about his long board. I always thought get a life, we are 900 miles inland.

I have a Mike McGill that I bought in 87 or 88, and shortly thereafter, I stopped skating, it has very low miles, very little damage, would that be worth anything?

Not sure how to take that... I probably shouldn't, but I feel offended...

Inland? what, skating is some subservient thing to surfing or something? It's its own entity and honestly, far more difficult imo.. I've never known someone to brag about equipment, maybe espouse how fun skating was...

I've never felt more alive than when bustin a big air, ever... I've done lots of crazy and fun things in my life, but nothing comes close.. People that just look at it, have no clue as to what it feels like...

better times, well, at least for my knees... :wink1:

Yup, take a pic for me and i'll let ya know what kinda coin... Not talking the kinda cash that Bowmans going for, but more than likely 2 to $300... Now an early 80's MCGill? big coin there!

I think he was pointing out the fact that he thought long board = surfboard, and he thought that the guy was an idiot for bragging about it when the nearest waves were at least 900 miles away.

Next time I've got the camera handy, I'll snap one. I was just curious, I don't think I'd sell it anyway. It does get used, though. I have used it numerous times under furniture and such to move crap around the garage. My bro has an Alva Dagger in similar condition.

The Dagger is worth more, depending on which one...

Those late 80's Alva's are cool decks... Big, steep tails, good for airs, me likey...

Thats funny, I remember back then that the general consensus was that if you couln't afford Powell Peralta, you got a dagger. I'll see if he can dig that up. How bou't a Jeff Kendall. I think I still have that deck at my parents house somewhere. It's not the one with the mushroom cloud, but the one with the hand coming out of the wall spraying graffiti. Damn, I was never a real good skater, my board was used more to get around the city than doing tricks, but this thread brings me back....

Well, I've seen the Graffiti model go for anywhere from $150 to $700..

The "End of the World" deck is worth a bit more usually...

I still skate a later 80's Alva John Gibson on 1/2 pipes sometimes.... Love the shape and huge tri-tail.. The green one, second from the right...

Powell is kinda a funny thing in skating... Very popular, sold tons.. I skated quite a few over the years... In retrospect, quality was lacking quite often in their decks. Especially the Bonite decks they came out with later...

Here's one of my early 80's McGill's that I blew up at a contest.... This deck mint nowadays is worth some coin...

    This one..

I used to have that McGill and the Graffiti. I have a re-pro powell deck with 179's sitting in my living room staring at me, begging me to ride. I wish I had the time and my old body.

I'm gonna find time today... Kinda a birthday gift to myself..

Got the quiver in the back of the K5... Need to run out to Trenton today, may take a detour south and hit up FDR, haven't skated there, or anywhere for that matter, in awhile....

I'm thinking I'm gonna skate my black JFA in the pic above... My knees have been aching for months, but screw em! :haha:
