Although it looks like a well-made movie, I have a serious problem with the premiss of the story.

A former Marine (it's not a coincidence they use a Marine: Semper Fi -'Always Faithful) who is double-crossed by the U.S. Government (they lied, hint-hint:Bush  ).
IMHO, it attempts to coincide with current liberal media opinion regarding the Bush Administration of which I totally reject.

I'll probably pass this one miss up.

    As a side note:
It appears to attempt what the movie 'The Green Berets' tried to do in 1968, but in reverse!
The movie starred John Wayne (American Hero/icon) aboot U.S. Special Forces in Viet Nam. It really pushed the 'Why we're in Viet Nam' premiss throughout the movie.
In and of itself, it was a good movie. However, watching it now as an adult and a history/political junky, it became pretty clear of its intent.

Anyone know if it is based on the book "Shooter" by GySgt Jack Coughlin? If it is I'll probably go see it. He's the Marine Corps' top sniper, for those that don't know.

I saw it Saturday. Not a bad movie. Has it's cliche and cheesy moments but overall a good movie. Definately some strong anti-bush sentiments. I was a little dissapointed by the ending. Kinda anti-climatic.

Actually the movie is based on Stephen Hunter's book Point of Impact. Really good book. Hope the movie doesn't butcher it.

I just ordered both books. I haven't saw the movie yet. I figured I would give it time to wind down a little bit. I'm looking forward to it.

definitely not based on the book Shooter... which is highly recommended btw. I dunno, I have heard about the relatively-obvious anti-conservative spin this flick has (which is always kinda funny in a flick about Marines... pretty ****in conservative group)... I'll prolly wait until it comes out on DVD.

I still wanna know what happened to the Funky Bunch after Marky Mark kicked them to the curb so he could be an actor...

Yes it was! Too bad they didn't make that movie. That's Hollywood, I guess.

I just saw it. Personally, as a former Marine, I think it's got some glaring technical flaws and the political spin is HORRENDOUS.

They took a REALLY good book and turned it into a so-so action flick with a political message.

My faith in ol' Marky-Mark is down a bit. If I had known it was this bad I'd have spent the money on finding a copy of the book and rereading it. Point of Impact is MUCH better.

Which sniper school teaches the use of Kentucky windage? I know Marine Corps Bootcamp and Scount/Sniper school sure as hell don't...
A lot of the gear was wrong too...

Don't waste your time or money folks.
