Just wondering if sanding every thing down to 220 grit is ok for paint prep, the panels are bran new and have the black coating on them, is 220 grit sufficient enough?

220 is fine, 240 is what I usually use for final sanding before laying down the color.

If your using enamel...
#220 if you're using a DA sander...
I'd go to #320 if you're hand sanding... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
