I have a NATO gas can that has collapsed due to being sealed at altitude and brought back down, which sucked in the sides a good bit.

I am trying to figure out a way to make it expand again (without a trip to the hills) and I am thinking one of the two following solutions:

Fill with water and set it in the sun and hope this causes expansion

Fill with water and put in a tub of hot water with same goal

    Any suggestions???

I'd fill it with gas and set it out in the sun. I think you would get more expansion from the gas vapors than you would from water .

a little. as in really just a little bit of dry ice and water. Close the lid plenty of internal pressure. 5-10 small cubes only. Too many will blow the tank apart with a violent explosion.

    freeze it..

Fill it 3/4 full of water and put it in the freezer!..might spilt it open though..if water can crack a block when it freezes,I'm sure it can "un-dent" your gas can!.
Maybe you could pressurize it with compressed air?

Or get one of those "POP"s- A- Dent" things they sell on TV!! :surepal: :rotfl:

Someone once told me you could stretch shoes that were too tight by putting baggies in them, and filling them with water, and freezing them..I tried it..it blew the uppers right off the soles!~. .oh well..they didn't fit anyway..

welp, i thought about it, but i cant figure it out... what does NATO stand for, doesnt seem like it's North Atlantic Treaty Organization?? but if it's just a metal can, the dry ice with water, or freezing the tank with water in it should do...

Tried the air thing, can't get any kind of seal from my compressor to the can.

Getting close to being able to leave it out all night and try the freeze thing.

You got that right, NATO as in NATO surplus as opposed to US Army surplus, still the same thing though, green 5 gallon military gas can.

    Looks like freeze it is.

take a plunger and get it and the tank wet. hold the tank down sucktion the plunger on and then pull fast and hard and it should pop out. same thing goes for if your door gets caved in some
