My daughter is signed up for ski lessons this year and needs a ski helmet. Can anyone out there recommend a specific brand or model, keeping in mind that it's for a 8 year old girl?

Just rent one. Every ski rental shop I've ever been to has a ton of rental helmets. Lord knows I need one... :doah:

They have recreation ski helmets?

We had to sign a waiver and promise we wouldn't die.

Whatever is cheap. I raced for a year, and used a $50 helmet i got a deal on.

Basically, a helmet is a helmet.....just one at a ski shop on sale.

You don't need helmets... started skiing at age 2. Went every weekend till I was 8. Even now I go frequently. I just think people look dumb with helmets.

I haven't seen many, if any head injuries on a ski course. And if one were to manage to get themselves into such a situation... Lord knows a helmet won't really do the trick. But you're right Paul... rather safe than sorry. I'd just get them BMX or Motocross helmets, the cover the face somewhat too, so if they face plant a tree, no biggy.

    Sam:

Sunshine(a big ski resort in Banff National Park) has already had one fatality this year. The guy wouldn't have died if he'd had a helmet on.

My daughter is just learning to ski. She might lose control and run into a tree. The last thing I want or need is a brain-damaged daughter. A helmet is cheap insurance. And lastly, up here, ALL the kids wear helmets.

I hate to side with Sam on something :p: but of the skiing I've done the face injuries I've seen are generally pretty nasty.

Also, my dad is an eye surgeon that also does some facial reconstruction when it's needed. Eyes and surrounding orbits are very delicate structures. You don't even wanna know how much time it takes what it costs to get it right again after it's messed up. Even then retinal detachment is always a serious possibility years afterwards. A helmet with facial shielding would definitely be a good idea.

We have several people die a year here at CO ski resorts from head injuries. Ski helmets are highly recommended by the ski patrol. Try looking around here for ideas Canman.

    BOERI is a good choice.

I wasn't hot on teh idea at first, but i had to wear one when i started racing.

Now i won't go near the slopes without one. Really, they'r enot bad to wear....most of the time you are wearing a hat to keep your head warm anyways. Just think of it as a hat that might save your life......
Oh, and i reccomend the ones wiht jaw protection....just cause
