    Playing in the mud pit.

On a side note, you'll notice B_to_C's truck in the background at the mud pit. It's not because I'm trying to make Nick look bad; he suffered some damage. I'm sure he'll post and explain.

Looks like I missed out on alot of fun. That mud pit is always fun. We moved all day /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, wish I could have been there. Did Bo and John make the trip?

Nick, what happened to your truck?

John and Bo didn't make it. I know John decided that it would be good weather to get some things fixed on his truck.

Paul, I love the snow too! /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Yup, there was a little bit of carnage today. About half-way through the trail I hear this nassty gridning noise comin from the transfer case / front end area when under hard acclereation. I looked around but couldn't find anything... A little bit further down the trail I looked again and noticed the bracket that connects the transfer case to the cross member is sheared /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif . this was letting the transfer case/ transmission flex under heavy load and the front driveshaft was actually rubbing up against the crossmember /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif(the grinding noise i was hearing). But pictures are worth 1000 words so....

And while I was poking around down there I came across this... /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif

Not to mention my transfer case is pissing a little more steadily than usual....

    Re: Slaughterhouse Gulch PICS

My frame did the exact same thing in the exact same place. I didn't find out about it till the transfer case crossmember broke all the way threw the frame and the crossmember fell.

A local fab shop welded on a piece of angle iron about 3/8" thick in to fix the damage. Since then I have had no problems with it. I will tell you though if you start laying the crossmember and tcase down on things hard it will start to bend the framerail lips up. I am having this problem on the non-patched side.

You need to get that frame crack taken care of immediately.

If you need that welded up I can talk to my father-in-law and he could probably do it.

I'm thinking you should post up in the Garage and see what everyone else thinks about welding it up. I wonder if it would be better to weld a piece of strap over it or box up the frame in that area. Seems like it would be the same concept as the frame repair kit for the steering box. Looks like the exhaust might be in the way though.

    Don't box it.

Stop drill the crack and weld it closed. Then grind it flat. Take a piece of 4"x4" 1/4" (or 3/8") thick angle iron and weld it over the area. Make the peice of angle about 2" bigger then the crossmember and leave about 1" on each side. And then weld it to the frame to make a new foot for the crossmember. You will have to drill the new plate with the bolts for the xmember.

That should make it plenty stout.

I just now noticed you had posted that.

I came back and saw that you and Trooper had posted before me. You must have posted while I was typing. I type too slow.

Good fun! But, I wasn't able to get my tcase into lo all day, and the qjet bogged a dozen times.

I am kind of a puss. When we were going down from the top it was covered in snow and I had a very high pucker factor as the blazer slid down in many places (bolgna skins don't grip very well).

I have some good video, where can I post the files, and how many megs are available.

    Nice carnage Nick,

That would be awesome Scott, let me know... And I posted in the garage to get some more exposure (assuming it doesn't get burried).

P.S. I like how you changed the title of the post /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
