were any of the 465's mated w/ 203s? if so was it rare, and how difficult would it be find an adapater? finally, should i try to go w/ this setup or should i just get the th350 rebuilt and keep it mated w/ the 203?

The SM465/NP203 combo was offered in 73-74 only, they are very rare, Stephen Watson told me the adapters go for about $150 and the input shaft, if its in good shape another $150. What you should keep, auto versus manual, is really up to you, and what you really want, you could give SW a call and see if they have any, sometimes they come across one, or post on the wanted board, and see if any body has one, i have one bu tim hanging onto it for a freind, sorry.

It was a factory option, but only in 1974. /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

If you want to go with a 465 why not just swap the case at the same time to a 205? Those combos are plentiful and pretty easy to find.

Be aware that most likely if you ever find one, that the input shaft on the 203 end will be worn, slightly or not. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

I found one out of a '74 truck and when I pulled the 203 from the 465, the input shaft was worn so bad, the grooves looked like a "V" instead of "square" shaped. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

I contacted Watson and he said he sells 'new' or replacement inputs for $160. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

They aren't *that* rare. I bought one a year ago, it took me a couple days of calling junkyards around town. The hard part was getting the idiots running the places to understand what I wanted. I had at least 5 tell me they had it, then try to sell me an NP205 or an auto tranny NP203 after I got there. I paid $150 for the whole t-case and then $75 for the adapter. The adapter was the hard part to find. The t-case was in good shape, no wear on the input. I only kept the range box, though.

Call around, you might get lucky...

you could get a 465/205 combo cheaper then a 203 for a 465.
money well spent

I agree with this, too, unless you find someone who is a total moron and does not know what they have or are dealing with. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
