The stock chrome one. What are you looking to find, a cool one, a shorter shifter not to ram your hand into the dash on the upper gears? (I have that problem /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif) Regardless of what cool shifter people have, everyone still has a 3 foot throw between 2-3 gears on these old 4 speeds.

Do they even make aftermarket shifters for the 465? Shifter knobs sure, but entire shifters?

I have the stock chrome shifter, stock shifter knob...works just fine!/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

personally i like the feel of the throw and the shifter knob is just the right size for my hand, sorta like a golf ball size, and it is worn smooth, and has that lovely pattern of L-1-2-3---R gotta love it.

I've always wondered about this - our trucks came with chrome shifters....? Really?

Mine is black and I don't think I could live with it being chrome.

The SM465 shifter I like best is the one from my '69 C20. Only had the single bend down low and looks like a hockey stick. Also liked the feel of the old flatter knob with just a hint of the engraved 1-2-3-4-R remaining. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah, I've had two pair of chrome shifters, I do think they look out of place, but I'm guessing it's mostly from the later trucks...to match the chrome 208 shifter lever. I had a chrome 205 shifter, but I got rid of it too, just didn't look that great in the cab, and I didn't want to heat and bend the chrome 205 shifter to make it fit /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

mine was black until I noticed the sweet custom job the previous owner made.....two mismatched bolts with a hose clamp that didnt hold,in place of the pins on the cover.....tore up the machined grooves....not to mention the play got so bad i couldnt find third...PLUS what I used to fix it properly probably cost less then their ghetto set-up....anyways Ive gone disco chrome now.

That truck must be cherry if a custom shifter is a priority

mine has the black shifter with the factory knob that was cut to let the previous owner make a fist. (really stupid looking) /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif been looking for a piston shaped one, not easy. and i want to find a chrome shifter match my 208 lever.

    they have them at checker/kragen/schucks....
But i have found that they are not very comfy. good on a t-case. and they are plastic.

but if you want to make one that will last, find a weed wacker piston... just the right size. like a 25cc motor piston.
