just about everything, but around '85-'87 they made some changes and the intake manifolds and flywheels were changed. if you have a later style 305, your parts will fit a later style 350, and vice-versa.

All small block chevy's are externally the same, with the exception of the "400" which is externally balanced unlike all others which are internally balanced. This won't matter to you unless you are trying to interchange front harmonic damper or rear flywheel/flexplate. There was a change made to the intake bolt pattern in "1987", also came the one piece rear main seal in "1987", and also center bolt valve covers in "1987" as long as both engines are "1987" and earlier or "1987" and later all accessories and external parts will interchange. Also in "1987" they externally balanced only the rear half of the engine and due to the one piece rear main seal also the bolt pattern changed to a smaller pattern. I hope this will clear everything up for you.

distributors are slightly different also, as far as the wiring goes. The 350 has a four prong harness where as the 305 has a three prong harness. The one piece rear main seal was introduced in 86 not 87.

"all" is too broad a word.

Considering the fact that you were asking about the interchangability of "305" to "350" i would assume that you would know they never made a "305" in the early years, as you would be referring to about "1968" and earlier when the heads did not have accessory bolt holes in the ends. And i did make a mistake about the year that the one piece seal came out, it was "1986". thanks for correcting me Dunc03. We never know it all, but sometimes we come close. lol

Hey Dunc03, i just thought i better clarify also that the "400" actually has many different internal components as well as the external differences. Just so that noone else thinks i don't know about those also. lol

Also, the 400 is not the only internally balanced small block. The zz motor is external and there are others, I just don't which ones.
